Lower your Electrical Bill, Get Healthier Pool Water and Prolong your Equipment Life.

Filter cleanings are proven to more than pay for themselves. The daily electrical savings alone are enough to pay for a single filter cleaning on our program.
How Does a Filter Cleaning Pay for Itself?
The primary way a filter cleaning pays for itself is with electricity savings. A pool filter pump is forced to pull more amps or suck more electrical power to keep the impeller which moves the water in a manner similar to how a fan blade moves air moving at the RPM or speed designated by the motor. When the impeller encounters increased resistance down line in the plumbing due to dirt in the filter it must work harder and burn more electricity to maintain the same RPM.
To make the math simple we estimate a savings of 5 cents per hour that a pool pump runs. Most of our customers run their equipment 12-14 hours a day during the in season months and 6-8hrs a day in the out of season months. This averages to about 10 hours per day on average year round. There are some additional hours in the Winter as the freeze switch will run the equipment 24hrs a day whenever the temperature is in the mid to high 30's and lower.
10 hrs per day x 5 cents per hour savings = 50 cents of electrical savings per day.
50 cents in savings per day x 180 days (6 months) = $90
If you are on a Filter Cleaning Program, you can have your filter cleaned every 6 months with Gabe's Pool Service for only $89.
How Does a Filter Cleaning Provide Healthier Pool Water?
When we disassemble and clean a filter we typically remove 10-25lbs of organic matter that has been filtered out of your pool. While this matter is not in the pool itself, it still is in a pool's circulatory system meaning the water has to be pumped through it and returned to the pool.
The increase in organic matter buildup in a filter dilutes the affect of Chlorine to be able to sanitize as effectively. It also increases the amount of Chloramines in the water which causes increased skin and eye irritation.
Removing all the extra matter from a pool filter on a regular basis promotes healthier pool water that feels more comfortable to the skin.
How Does a Filter Cleaning Prolong the life of my pool equipment?
Prolonging the life of your Filter.
The elements inside Diatomaceous Earth (DE), Cartridge, and Hybrid filters are plastic and cloth. Over time, these elements are subject to increased pressure and increased weight on them from the matter that has been removed from the pool water. Cleansing this matter from the cloth elements reduces this stress on them.
Prolonging the life of your Pump.
When the pump works harder to push the water through the filter it is using up more electricity and causing undue stress on the motor. A motor lasts longer when in a lower stress environment due to an optimally running filter.
What Types of Filters Qualify for a Cleaning?
In short, everything but sand filters. This includes Diatomaceous Earth (DE), Cartridge, and Hybrid filters. For more on the different filter types see Gabe's blog post titled "What is the best filter for my pool."
What is Included in a Gabe's Pool Service Filter Cleaning?
At Gabe's Pool Service we ensure the filter is optimized with each and every filter cleaning. This is done with the 3 following steps:
1) Full disassemble of all Grids / Cartridges
2) Cleansing with an Acid Solution as Needed to help remove calcium buildup and other minerals.
3) Disassemble and Lubrication of the Backwash Valve (Push Pull / Slide Valves)
How often should my Filter be Cleaned?
Many manufacturers recommend filters to be disassembled and cleaned every 6 months. At Gabe's Pool Service nearly all our customers have us clean their filters every 6-9 months. Unless you have an extremely clean pool, going longer than 9 months typically incurs big tradeoffs in electricity usage and a reduction in equipment longevity.
How Much Does a Filter Cleaning Cost?
A filter cleaning is $119 if you are not on a Gabe's Pool Service Filter Cleaning Program, $89 if you are. We offer a 25% discount for customers on the Filter Cleaning Program after the filter has been cleaned the first time for the regular price of $119.
What is the Gabe's Pool Service Filter Cleaning Program?
Since your filter will need to be cleaned on an ongoing regular basis we offer a 25% discount to customers that will join our filter cleaning program. The program allows us to pre-schedule your future cleanings at the month increment you choose. Since we do not have to get authorization each time to clean the filter and are able to more efficiently plan our routes ahead of time, we pass the savings along to our customers as an incentive to help encourage best practices for their filter maintenance.
